Description
A one-off buy that appears in the rightmost shop slot with a champion hiding behind it. You can buy one per round, only during the planning phase, and most of them last a single round. What you get depends on which of the seven kinds it is: Champion, Combat, Item, Shop, Gold/XP, Misc, or a Risky deal. Skipping it costs you nothing — when planning ends the Wisp is whisked away and the champion it was covering is revealed, so you still see that extra unit in the slot. By default one turns up in every other shop, and after stage 5 every other Wisp you see is guaranteed to be a Combat one. The Blossom trait is built around them: it upgrades the Wisps you are offered, puts them in more shops, pays you gold for buying one, and eventually lets you buy two a round.

Frequently asked questions
-
What exactly is a Wisp, and what can one give me?
A Wisp is a temporary, single-use buy that sits in the rightmost shop slot — it is not a champion. You can only take it during the planning phase. Seven kinds exist — Champion, Combat, Item, Shop, Gold/XP, Misc and Risky — each with its own colour and icon, giving combat power, resources like gold or XP, or a risky deal. You may buy one per round; a trait line raises that to two. A champion hides behind the Wisp.
-
Is a champion hidden behind the Wisp, and do I lose that unit if I buy it?
Yes — a champion hides behind it, and you cannot peek while the Wisp is showing. You do not lose that unit. The Wisp disappears either the moment you buy it or when planning ends, and the shop unit behind it is revealed. So buying does reveal it sooner, and skipping still shows you that extra unit. Either way the slot ends up a normal shop slot.
-
How long does a Wisp last — is it gone after one round?
Most last a single round. Combat Wisps are single-use power for that one fight and do not carry over. The other kinds hand you a resource instead — a champion, an item, gold or XP — which goes to your board, bench or bank rather than expiring when the round ends. Read the category colour before buying: Combat is the short-lived one.
-
How often does a Wisp appear, and can I reroll to get a different one?
A Wisp turns up in every other shop, always in the rightmost slot — the rule counts shops, not rounds, so paying to refresh can turn one up. What rolling cannot buy you is a second Wisp: the cap is one purchase per round. A trait line puts a Wisp in every shop, and after stage 5 every other Wisp you are offered is guaranteed to be a Combat one.
-
Are Wisps free? What does buying one really cost?
No. They cost gold, and they get pricier as the game goes on, because later Wisps are stronger. The quiet cost is interest: you earn 1 gold per full 10 banked, capped at 5 a round, so dropping from 30 to 29 costs a gold every round until you climb back. Buy when the effect swings the fight or your board.
-
Can I skip a Wisp now and buy it later?
No. A Wisp can only be bought during the planning phase, and it is whisked away the moment that phase ends — the slot then shows the champion it was hiding, so you still get a look at that extra unit. You cannot save one for a stronger round, and none can be bought during combat. Most last only the round you buy them, so decide inside that planning window.
-
Why do I keep seeing combat Wisps late in the game?
It is a deliberate rule: after stage 5, every other Wisp you are offered is guaranteed to be a Combat one. Before that, an offer can come from any of the seven categories, so a late roll-down could hand you gold or shop help when you needed board power. The guarantee keeps fight-shaped offers coming once fights decide the game.
-
Can I tell which Wisp an opponent bought?
Partly. When a player buys a Wisp, that Wisp's category icon appears beside their Tactician health bar, and the seven categories each carry their own colour and icon, so they can be read at a glance. Scouting therefore tells you what kind of help someone took — combat, gold, an item — but not which exact Wisp it was or what it does.
